How to Transfer Data to a New Android Phone
Move apps, photos, messages and accounts to a new Android phone while keeping the old phone intact until everything is verified.

Move apps, photos, messages and accounts to a new Android phone while keeping the old phone intact until everything is verified. Use this practical checklist as a starting point and confirm model-specific instructions with the service or device maker.
Prepare both phones
Charge both devices, connect them to stable Wi-Fi and update the old phone’s apps. Check the new phone has enough storage. Confirm that you know the Google Account password, current screen lock and any manufacturer account credentials.
Run a fresh backup and verify photo sync. Do not erase or trade in the old phone before checking the result on the new one.
Use the transfer offered during setup
Start the new phone and choose to copy apps and data. A compatible cable is usually the most direct method; wireless transfer is available on supported devices. Keep both phones powered and follow the matching codes or prompts. Select what to copy if the destination is smaller.
The setup transfer may be offered only once without resetting the new phone, so avoid skipping it until you understand the alternative.
Know what needs separate attention
Downloads, hidden-folder files, apps outside the Play Store, some application data, ringtones and accounts from other providers may not transfer automatically. Banking apps often require new-device verification. Authenticator and messaging apps can have their own migration procedure.
Check locally stored contacts and calendars rather than assuming every entry already syncs.
Verify important items
Check recent photos, contacts, messages, notes, downloaded documents and important applications. Make a call, receive a message and confirm mobile data or eSIM activation. Open the password manager and verify that recovery still works.
Allow time for cloud content and applications to finish downloading before deciding something is missing.
Keep the old phone until the move is complete
Use the new phone normally for several days while the old phone remains protected. Only then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out, activation-lock and factory-reset instructions. Remove SIM and storage cards and confirm the reset reaches the setup screen.
