New PC Won’t Boot? Check Power, RAM and Display
Diagnose a new PC with no power, no display or no boot device. Follow a symptom-based checklist for cables, memory, graphics and motherboard indicators.

“Won’t boot” can mean three different things: no power, power with no picture, or a working firmware screen with no operating system. Identify which one describes your PC before reseating parts. Record what the fans, display and diagnostic lights actually do; changing several components at once hides the useful clues.
No response when you press the power button
Check that the wall outlet works, the mains cable is seated and the PSU switch is on. Then switch the PSU off and unplug it before inspecting internal connections. Verify the main 24-pin motherboard plug, the required CPU EPS power plugs and the case power-switch header against the motherboard manual. A front-panel connector shifted by one pin can prevent the case button from working.
Check for a loose screw or an extra case standoff beneath the board. Do not probe a live PSU, open its enclosure or short random motherboard pins. If you smell burning, see smoke or notice a damaged power connector, disconnect mains power when safe and stop testing. Have the affected hardware inspected or replaced.
Fans run, but there is no picture
Confirm the monitor is powered on and set to the input you connected. Try a known-working cable and remove unnecessary display adapters. When using a dedicated GPU, connect the display to that card. A motherboard HDMI or DisplayPort socket only works if the CPU and platform support integrated graphics.
Give a new system time to complete memory training as described by its motherboard maker. Repeatedly cutting the power during training can prevent progress. Observe diagnostic indicators: a light that briefly cycles during startup is different from one that stays on. Use the exact board’s manual to interpret its LEDs, codes or beeps.
Use the diagnostic light to narrow the check

An indicator identifies the stage that failed; it does not by itself prove that the named component is defective. A new blank SSD may produce a boot-device warning simply because an operating system has not been installed yet.
Test a minimal configuration
Switch off and unplug the system before every hardware change. Disconnect unnecessary USB devices and expansion accessories. Keep the CPU with its cooler, one memory module in the recommended slot, the PSU and a display path that the CPU actually supports. Keep the dedicated graphics card if integrated graphics are unavailable.
Test one memory module at a time, following the manual’s slot guidance. Check that the latch closes fully. If the system works with one module, add the next only after powering down again. Return memory tuning to defaults if instability began after enabling a profile. Clear CMOS only through the documented process; save settings and have any encryption recovery key available first.
Verify firmware support before removing the CPU or trying a BIOS update. If the board requires an update to recognise the processor, follow its supported recovery or flashback process exactly. Flashing the wrong model’s firmware or interrupting an update can create an additional problem.
Firmware opens, but the OS does not load
Check whether the SSD appears in firmware storage information. For SATA drives, inspect both data and power cables. For M.2 drives, confirm the slot supports the drive’s protocol and that any lane-sharing rule is satisfied. If the drive appears but is new and empty, start your official installation USB and install the operating system.
If the drive previously contained your files, do not format or initialise it as a troubleshooting step. Check the boot order and documented UEFI settings, and use the operating system’s supported recovery path. Back up recoverable data before attempting a reinstall. Unplug unrelated disks before an intentional clean install to reduce the chance of choosing the wrong target.
If the fault remains, write down the motherboard model and revision, CPU, RAM kit, PSU, GPU, firmware version if known, and the exact indicator behaviour. Share that record with the seller or manufacturer support. This is more useful than ordering replacement parts based on a guess.
